The Area

There are many superb and historic sights for you to enjoy in, or close to, the beautiful countryside of Tarn and Garonne, South West France.

Perhaps you would like to drive to the nearest little towns of Caylus or Limogne, or visit the glorious towns of Najac or Villefranche de Rouergue with the bustling colourful weekly markets. A short drive takes you down the Lot Valley to the magical hilltop town of Saint-Cirq Lapopie.

You may choose to kayac down the breathtaking Aveyron River from St. Antonin Noble Val, the stunning location for the film Charlotte Gray, or drive down the Aveyron Gorges towards the ancient towns of Cordes sur Ciel or Bruniquel.

Caylus - 10km

The closest little medieval town has a small market every Tuesday and Saturday morning.

 

Villefranche de Rouergue - 20km

Built as a bastide in 1252, this lovely town sits on a bend in the river Aveyron. The Church of Notre Dame towers over the market square and the town offers restaurants, shops and a wealth of stunning historical buildings.

The busy market on Thursdays offers the very best of local produce and the cafes are the best places to sit and watch the world go by.

Najac - 21km

An unusual village with quaint medieval houses stretching across the top of a ridge overlooking the natural beauty of the Aveyron.

The impressive Najac Castle was built in the 13th century and has a picturesque view of the river winding through the valley that is well worth the climb.

Saint- Cirq Lapopie - 27km

Perched on a cliff 100meters above the river this gorgeous town is one of the major beauty spots of the Lot Valley and is a definite 'must see'.

The drive along the Lot winds its way past some magnificent rock formations with houses built back into the cliff faces.

St Antonin Noble Val- 23km

St Antonin was the location for the 2001 film Charlotte Gray and is one of the finest and most substantial towns in the valley.

There is a bustling Sunday market to sample regional produce and many bars and restaurants. There are several places from which to hire kayaks or canoes for an exciting river adventure.

Cordes- Sur- Ciel- 40km

Founded in 1222, Cordes is a large and amazingly preserved bastide with dozens of winding streets to explore and breathtaking panoramic views. The town is rich in artisan workshops for pottery, leather goods and paintings.
